A Message for Men

Welcome Men!

Thanks for popping in to the “Portal of Possibilities” … I imagine “Inspiration for Women Who Love to Dream and Dare to Write” might have felt a bit uninviting.

This page is my whole-hearted welcome to you.

I’m Janet, Founder of Divine Ink. This website is a relatively new incarnation (July 2024) of the spirit of my life’s work, though the discovery of a luminous divine ink goes back over 30 years. I’ve shapeshifted many times—as has the form of the offerings—always expanding and evolving, as I listen for what’s next.

I had a very different plan for my life before I started writing—and I was living it fully. And yet, do you too know that feeling, when you sense something essential is missing?

“What in your life is calling you,
when all the noise is silenced,
the meetings adjourned,
the lists laid aside,
and the wild iris blooms by itself in the dark forest,
what still pulls on your soul?
” ~ Rumi

Life intervened (you can read my full story here ) as inevitably happens, and I knew I would need to go inward before I could go onward. I took a sabbatical from my teaching job at an international language school, and for the first time began cultivating silence, stillness, and solitude to answer my deepest questions:

Who am I?
Why am I here?
What is my purpose?

I sat with these questions and an open journal, listening. I wasn’t a writer; I was someone seeking something missing. You might say, I was taking notes. Piece by piece, the luminous ink on the pages began to reveal a vision: a light-filled studio, and I said, "Show me what you want to be." As I listened and followed intuitive clues, it came to life.

That studio became the home of my first practice, Soul Work, a space for individually guided healing and transformational journeys. The Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology I’d earned a decade earlier took on a new dimension. And though few people were talking about the “soul” at the time, referrals came through a like-spirited network.

Women and men began showing up. The desire for deeper self-knowing, more meaningfully inspired lives, and soul purpose was universal.

As my practice grew, I began offering groups—today’s writing circles for women. Eventually, my business became Women’s Creative Network. The circles flowed and flourished, and the energy rippled out.

Along the way I was often asked, Would you consider facilitating a circle for men? Or, including men in the women’s circles?

The answer, YES and NO.

Women have long needed sacred spaces of their own—to find their voices, to be heard and supported by other women. These writing circles are not critique groups. They’re deeply feminine and intuitively sourced, in which our truths are honored and witnessed. They exist because we need them to

And if you’re still reading this, I trust you understand. Thank you.

"And the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles,

no matter how long,

but only by a spiritual journey,

a journey of one inch,

very arduous and humbling and joyful,

by which we arrive at the ground at our feet,

and learn to be at home."

— Wendell Berry

A Collective Vision For Us All

I want to share a dream with you by author Sidra Stone that has long inspired the women in my circles. In The Shadow King—The Invisible Force That Holds Women Back she wrote:

“In my dream I am carrying a large parcel of important women’s ‘treasures.’ This must be delivered to a group where men and women work together as partners in a new kind of partnership. There is no path … Only men have passed this way before, and they conquered by will, pushing beyond barriers, by brute force. They succeeded in reaching their goals, but they carried nothing of the feminine with them. I must reach the goal in a new way and, as I struggle towards it, I must not drop any of my female gifts.”

We’ve spent years gathering these gifts and treasures. I’ve seen what happens when old paradigms creep into mixed spaces. And I’ve also experienced the beauty of shared conversation and mutual discovery—in co-ed classrooms, in diverse cultures, in real connection.

My dream is that we find new ways to be together—in mutually supportive, interdependent,  beneficial ways, rooted in the ancient matriarchal values celebrating the divine feminine and divine masculine. I dream we find our way, full circle, and upward.
